Trauma and other mental health conditions are held in the sub-cortex of the brain. Your eyes are connected to the sub-cortex, making your eyes then connected to emotions, and bypassing the cognitive parts of the brain (where talk therapy comes from) that don’t regulate reflexes, emotions etc. A brainspot is where the information lives in the brain that needs processing and healing.
Through the therapeutic technique of brainspotting, the therapist guides and supports the client in tapping into the brainspot to promote emotional healing. Common conditions that brainspotting is effective in treating include but are not limited to: trauma, anxiety, stress, sports performance, unresolved issues, unwanted habits, addictions, hurt, and guilt. Brainspotting has proven to be effective through both in-person and virtual therapy sessions.
